| What exactly is PPYC? |
PPYC is a club of sailing enthusiasts. One of
the main purposes of PPYC is "to promote the sport of sailing in all
forms." Association with other sailors who share your interests and
your love of sailing is important to the club. Another of PPYC's
main purposes is to promote fellowship and association among its
members. |
| Do I have to own a sailboat? |
No. Several of our members are not boat owners (they just like
to sail). There are always members who can use an experienced crew
member, and members who are willing to help new sailors. |
| I keep my boat at Nashville
Shores or Elm Hill Marina. Is that OK? |
Absolutely! Several of our members keep their
boats at other marinas. Most of our racing activities are
based out of Hamilton Creek Sailboat Marina, but boats from all over
the lake participate. If you sail in one of our weekend regattas,
you can arrange for overnight docking at Hamilton Creek. |
| What kind of facilities does the club have? |
Because no private development is allowed on the shores of Percy
Priest Lake, PPYC does not own a clubhouse. We are however, very
fortunate to have the use of a Metro Park facility, Hamilton Creek
Sailboat Marina, which is dedicated to sailboats. Most of our races,
regattas and other sailing events are based out of Hamilton Creek.
The marina offers a security gate, snack bar, ice sales, launch
ramp, ample trailer parking, and hot showers. |
| Do you race? |
We sponsor club races and
regattas. These include informal
Wednesday night pursuit races and major regattas such as the Force Five, Grand Ole
Open, Equalizer, and Oktoberfest.
The racing rules require membership in a recognized yacht or sailing
club or in US SAILING to be eligible to race. |
| Do you do anything other than race? |
Sure. The Luau party is one of the best parties you can attend
without getting on a plane. The Christmas party is anxiously awaited
by everyone. Other activities include the Wednesday Night Series
cookouts, moonlight sails and
raft-ups. |
| What if I'm new to sailing? |
We have a learn to sail
group that meets every Tuesday evening that emphasizes learning
sailing skills, not just racing. |
| Is this a men's club? |
No. Many of our active members and sailors are women. |
| Are there other membership
benefits? |
Many yacht clubs allow guests that are members
of other yacht clubs to use their facilities. Because PPYC is a
recognized yacht club, you will be allowed access to many of these
clubs. PPYC is a member of US SAILING, Dixie Inland Yacht Racing
Association and Yachting Club of America.
As a PPYC member you will receive a $10 discount when you join US
SAILING as a Golden
Anchor member through PPYC ($15 discount for family membership).
You'll find that membership in PPYC is one of the
better deals in boating. |
| I'm interested. Can I attend a race or other
event to learn more about PPYC? |
If you want to learn more about PPYC before joining,
contact any of our officers.
They are happy to invite prospective new members with an
interest in sailing to attend a PPYC function as their guest.
If you already know a PPYC member, you may also contact
them. |
| I have more questions. Who can
I contact? |
See the
Officers and Contacts page for contacts at PPYC. |
